Associate Professor Daisuke Kanema of the Department of Economics and Business Administration, Research Area for Human and Social Sciences, Kanazawa University conducted a survey on the revitalization of the domestic black tea industry in Japan as an example of creating a new market. The survey revealed that green tea producers have been driving the revival of the black tea industry while innovating.

Production of domestic black tea began in Japan in the 19th century, and at one point there were exports of 5 tons. However, it lost its competitiveness due to the labor shortage accompanying the economic development in the latter half of the 20th century and the price increase due to the rise in labor wages, and it almost disappeared. In the 21st century, the production of black tea was resumed, and now the production volume is increasing and the quality is excellent.

In the research by Associate Professor Kanema et al., This revival of the black tea industry was taken as an example of "creating a new market", and the characteristics leading to the revitalization of the black tea industry were clarified through a situation survey in Sashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, which is known as "Sashima tea". ..As a result of the survey, green tea farmers aiming to develop new markets as the green tea market shrinks take the lead, technological innovation and technology transfer in production and manufacturing, development of new supply chains, and direct feedback from consumers to tea farmers. Was found to have played an important role.

The results of this study reveal the process by which entrepreneurial managers and producers create new markets on their own, despite the harsh environment, many of which are shrinking domestic food products. It is expected to show one of the new guidelines for agricultural production.
