Due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus infection, the shortage of personal protective equipment that protects medical staff is becoming more serious.Osaka University has succeeded in developing the world's first very inexpensive face shield that uses a clear file as a shield in collaboration with the world-famous eyeglass frame manufacturer "Charman" (Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture). From April 3st, we have released 4D data of the frame part and a video of the installation procedure so that you can easily make a face shield anywhere in the world.
The development was carried out by Professor Seiichi Nakajima (full-time) of the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, and Professor Osamu Murosaki (Joint Research Course on Next-Generation Endoscopic Therapy). "If we can print on local, common materials with a cheaper and better-performing 3D printer in recent years, we will be able to easily procure and manufacture locally, which will lead to the solution of problems on a global scale." Based on this idea, we combined Charmant's frame modeling technology and experience with the idea of "converting a clear file that is everywhere to a shield."With the latest virtual engineering technology possessed by Osaka University, it was completed in just three days from the idea.
Professor Seiichi Nakajima (full-time) said, "I was able to think that I could do something myself while my fellow European doctors actively announced ideas for corona countermeasures and exchanged information. It's a result. I think that the flexible creativity and the virtual engineering method developed at the university were well combined and led to the result. "The data has been released since April 4, and is expected to be used in medical settings where there is a serious shortage of products at present and in African countries where there is concern about the spread of infection in the future.
