JF Oberlin University will start a service to check the degree of campus congestion on the Internet from the fall semester of 2020.Students, faculty, and staff will work together to create a campus environment that is as safe as possible against new coronavirus infections.

JF Oberlin University, which lifts admission restrictions at the start of the fall semester, has established nine rules that students, faculty, and staff should follow as "JF Oberlin University Community Standards" as a measure to prevent virus infection. In addition to measuring the temperature, wearing a mask, and washing hands diligently, it is mandatory to install the new coronavirus contact confirmation app "COCOA" and the JF Oberlin University app "OBICON" on smartphones.

Originally, OBICON was developed as a smartphone app that detects students (smartphones with OBICON installed) in the classroom using beacons installed in the classroom, collects the usage status of the facility, and "visualizes" the amount of learning. The service starting this time uses this function to check the congestion of facilities such as classrooms, cafeterias and lounges on five campuses (Machida, Shinjuku, Planet Fuchinobe, Tokyo Hinatayama, Tama) in three stages.Furthermore, using a PC browser, it is possible to see the estimated number of users of classrooms and facilities.

JF Oberlin University says that it will utilize this mechanism to voluntarily avoid the three crowds and strive to realize a safe campus environment.
