On May 5, the University of Tokyo signed a partnership agreement with the Japan Sport Council (JSC) and the Japan Sports Association for the Disabled (JPSA). The aim is to collaborate in research in the fields of sports and health science for the Olympic and Paralympic Tokyo Games to be held in 20, to support the strengthening of athletes including people with disabilities, and to improve their competitiveness.
Prior to the conclusion of the cooperation agreement, the "University of Tokyo Research Center for Advanced Sports Science" (UTSSI) was newly established at the University of Tokyo on May 5.At this center, health in a super-aged society will be centered on academic achievements in sports and health sciences (physical fitness training, exercise learning, neurorehabilitation, biomechanics, etc.) and related fields (barrier-free development, robot engineering, genomic life sciences, etc.). We will promote research such as making and extending healthy life expectancy, improving the QOL (Quality of Life) of the elderly and people with disabilities, and improving the athletic ability of students and top athletes, aiming to return the academic results of our university to society. In collaboration with off-campus institutions such as JSC's Japan Institute of Sports Sciences (JISS) and JPSA's Japan Paralympic Committee (JPC), we plan to provide cutting-edge scientific research, various types of support, and support for the Paralympians.
