In November 2020, students studying welfare and community development at Otemon Gakuin University's Faculty of Regional Creation opened the dementia cafe "Flat Cafe Otemon" on campus.It was started in collaboration with the government and related organizations, and provides a place where people with dementia and their families can easily stop by, talk about their worries, and interact with local people and students.
The dementia cafe business is one of the measures of the "Comprehensive Strategy for Promotion of Dementia Measures" formulated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2015. As of 2019, it has been installed in about 8000 locations nationwide, preventing the isolation of people with dementia and their family caregivers, and supporting their purpose of life and their lives.In the free atmosphere unique to the cafe, it is a place where people with dementia, their families, local residents, professionals, etc. can easily gather.
Otemon Gakuin University is open to the public in collaboration with the government and related organizations, while the public facilities and welfare facilities for the elderly, which had been providing venues until now, have been canceled nationwide due to the influence of the Corona disaster. "Flat Cafe Otemon" was opened to take advantage of the space.It is run by 18 students belonging to the Iwabuchi / Kusayama seminar of the Faculty of Regional Creation, which studies "town development that makes it easy for everyone to live".
So far, the first meeting was held on November 2020, 11 and the second meeting was held on December 11, 1 at the Ibaraki Sochiji Campus. A total of 12 people participated in the two days, including the welfare committee members.On the day of the event, we will provide a relaxing time to talk freely while thoroughly implementing infection control measures based on the "Code of Conduct based on the prevention of new coronavirus infection" established by Otemon Gakuin University.At the same time, we introduced books related to dementia and the support projects carried out by the city.
From now on, it will be held on February 2021th (Wednesday) and March 2th (Wednesday), 17.The event will be held from 3:10 to 13:00, and will be held at Classroom A14 on the 30st floor of the Ibaraki Sochiji Campus.Participation fee is free, but if you buy a drink, it is the actual cost.
