Professor Makoto Ichikawa's research group at Chiba University reveals that the perceived time is not the number of events experienced, but the greater the cognitive load required to "experience" an event. I made it.

 Until now, it has been said that the time that humans feel becomes longer as the number of events experienced increases.However, is it the number of events that determines the length of time felt, or is it the cognitive load (cognitive effort spent performing the task) that arises in establishing the perception that the event has been "experienced"? Was unknown.

 This time, when two targets are presented in succession, the "blink of attention" phenomenon that overlooks the second target is used.We investigated the effects of the number of perceived stimuli and the cognitive load for target detection on the length of time felt.

 In the study, experimental participants who were presented with two stimulus sequences, alphabet sequence A with the target number and alphabet sequence B without the number, detected the number in it and determined the length of time felt. An experiment was conducted to evaluate.

 As a result, when all the targets could be confirmed in the series A, it was felt that the time was longer in the series A than in the series B, and the time was overestimated.No such overestimation was admitted if the target was not presented or if the "blink of attention" overlooked the second target.Also, the number of visual stimuli displayed on the screen and the length of time felt did not correspond.

 Our results show that cognitive factors play a greater role in determining the length of time felt than previously assumed.In the future, by manipulating cognitive factors, it may be possible to identify ways to extend fun time and shorten boring time.
