ALC Co., Ltd., which develops language teaching materials, operates the "English Learning Advisor Qualification Certification System" and trains "English Learning Advisors" to support English learners to learn autonomously. This time, we investigated and announced the operational results of the five universities where English learning advisors were stationed for the three years from 2013 to 2015.

In recent years, while the globalization of universities has been required, many students do not reach the English proficiency that should be acquired by the time they graduate from high school, and it is necessary to improve their English proficiency after entering university.Under such circumstances, it is difficult for English teachers alone to support individual students, so "English learning" that individually supports students with the aim of gaining the ability to "learn autonomously" from a different standpoint than teachers. It is said that the number of universities introducing "advisors" has increased in recent years.

According to this survey, the number of consultations with English learning advisors increased by about 3 times from 5 to 2013 at all five universities where English learning advisors have been stationed for the third year, and the use of advisors is progressing. I understand.

Many universities use advisors to strengthen TOEIC® measures for first-year students immediately after enrollment, and some universities require consultations with students whose TOEIC® score does not meet the university's regulations. It is thought that this is influential. On the other hand, at universities that require consultation with learning advisors with the aim of improving English proficiency and promoting study abroad, it is not mandatory because the number of advisors that can be accommodated is limited, although it is difficult to make a return visit even though it is the first visit. Issues such as difficulty in using it by students have also become clear.

In the future, ALC will continue to support universities, companies and English learners who have introduced English learning advisors by training and managing English learning advisors, verifying results, and proposing operational improvements based on data.
