The Nishina Memorial Foundation has announced that it will award the 2016 Nishina Memorial Prize to Tadashi Takayanagi, a professor at the Institute for Basic Physics, Kyoto University (41).The title of his achievement is "Discovery and development of entanglement entropy formula using holographic principle".
His achievements in explaining a phenomenon called "entanglement", which plays an important role in the basics of quantum mechanics, with an epoch-making formula were highly evaluated.The title of the achievement that was the reason for the award was "Discovery and development of the entanglement entropy formula using the holography principle", and Professor Takayanagi was theoretically shown in the important theory of physics "Choron theory". Focusing on the "principle", we devised a formula to calculate the entanglement phenomenon, which is said to be a state in which minute particle states are correlated using the same principle.The research fields contributed by Professor Takayanagi and others are attracting attention as the basis of quantum mechanics such as quantum gravity theory and string theory.
The Nishina Memorial Prize was established in 1890 to commemorate the achievements of the late Dr. Yoshio Nishina (1951-1955), who was an atomic physicist.Winners are selected for their outstanding research achievements in atomic physics and its applications.The winners so far include six Nobel Prize winners in physics: Leo Esaki, Masatoshi Koshiba, Makoto Kobayashi, Toshihide Maskawa, Shuji Nakamura, and Takaaki Kajita.
This award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Tokyo on December 2016, 12.Professor Takayanagi will be presented with a certificate, a prize and a supplementary prize of 6 yen.
