The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology reported to the 2016th Research Grants Subcommittee of the National Institute of Science and Technology that the number of applications and adoptions of the national scientific research grants reached a record high in FY8.The number of new adoptions was 2, an increase of 6,676 (294%) from the previous year, but the new adoption rate was only 1.1%, the fifth consecutive year of decline.

 According to the Ministry of Education, the number of adoptions in FY2016, including the continuation, was 7.The number of new applications was 5,290, which was 10 (1,234%) higher than the previous year.
The allocation amount was 1,613 billion yen, a total of 484 billion yen for direct expenses and 2,097 billion yen for indirect expenses, which was also a record high. The average direct cost allocation per task is 1 yen.It is 214 yen lower than the previous year.

 By type of research institution, national universities accounted for the largest number of applications and adoptions, with 49.2% applying and 54.8% adopting, accounting for almost half. Second place was both private universities and third place was public universities.Of these, the share of private universities has continued to increase over the past 2 years, and the number of adoptions has increased from 3% in 10 to 2007% in 21.9.

 In terms of the number of cases adopted by research field, biological systems are the largest at 42.9%.This is followed by science and engineering (21.6%), humanities (19.1%), and general (16.4%).This trend hasn't changed in the last few years.
Female researchers accounted for 19.6% of the total number of adoptions, an increase of 0.4 points from the previous year.There has been no change in the expanding trend that has continued in recent years.Looking at the new acceptance rate, female researchers account for 26.3%, compared to 26.5% for male researchers.There are slightly more females.
