According to a follow-up survey of Fukushima nuclear power plant staff, a research group at Juntendo University recovered from mental health problems caused by the disaster-related experience of the nuclear accident over time. It turned out to remain strong. It is expected to be useful for concrete improvement of post-disaster support measures.

Follow-up survey was conducted from April to May after the Great East Japan Earthquake (March 2011, 3).It was found that employees who have experienced disaster-related experiences in the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident have mental health problems such as stress reactions and mental distress after trauma compared to inexperienced employees. However, the time-series changes in the upset have not been fully investigated.

Therefore, the research group conducted a longitudinal study for three years (3-2011).We investigated the mental health of nuclear power plant staff over the long term and examined the causal relationship with the disaster experience after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident.

As a result, the risk of post-traumatic stress response for employees who experienced disaster-related experiences such as "disaster stress," "victim experience," and "discrimination / injuries" gradually decreased over time, but for three years. Even after that, it was still more persistent than the inexperienced staff. In particular, employees who received social criticism such as "discrimination / slander" were about 3 times more risky as of 2011 and about 6 times more risky as of 2014 than those who did not.In addition, employees who had "grief experience" experience of losing a colleague were about twice as likely as those who had no experience in 3, and did not recover as of 2011, and the same risk was recognized.

From the results of this survey, it was found that maintaining good mental health in the event of a disaster requires wide-ranging and long-term support such as systematic intervention measures. This is important when considering mental health measures for supporters and victims of various disasters.
