Professor Kengo Inaka and Professor Toru Kimura of the Graduate School of Joint Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University have demonstrated that bathing in a hot spring can improve rough skin in winter using Kapibara.

According to Yamaguchi University, the research group bathed capybara in Yuda Onsen, Yamaguchi City for 21 days, and investigated the effect of improving rough skin.Capybara is a rodent that lives in the Amazon River basin in South America, and it is known that when bred in Japan, the skin becomes dry and rough in winter when the temperature and humidity drop.

Examination of the capybara after 21 days of bathing revealed that the capybara's rough skin had returned to its normal state. It was found that the water content of the skin increased, the pH remained weakly alkaline, and the level of melanin, which deposits pigment, decreased, while the blood circulation condition improved. It was also confirmed that the relaxation effect was produced from the facial expressions and behaviors of the capybara.

It has become clear from many years of Japanese experience that hot springs are difficult to cool. The same was true for capybara, which remained warm for 30 minutes after bathing.

Yuda Onsen is a non-volcanic hot spring that has been known for about 1,200 years, and is known for its soft water that fits well on the skin. It has been said that it has a beautiful skin effect, as it is said to be "the hot water for beautiful skin found by the white fox", but the result is as traditional.

The research group believes that the bathing effect of hot springs obtained by capybara can be applied to humans, and that the bathing effect of hot springs should be scientifically elucidated and utilized for maintaining and improving health and contributing to a longevity society.
