The English conversation ability judgment system "inteLLA" developed by the research group of Yoichi Matsuyama, Senior Researcher of the Green Computing System Research Organization of Waseda University, is the world's largest educational contest "QS-Wharton Reimagine" called "Oscar of the educational world". Selected for the Bronze Award in the ability judgment category of "Education Award 2021".
According to Waseda University, the contest is sponsored by the UK university evaluation agency Quacquarelli Simmons and the University of Pennsylvania at Wharton in the United States. It is considered to be one of the largest contests in the world to commend the education of innovative efforts, and in the past, it has been awarded by famous overseas universities such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Most of the English speaking tests so far have been read aloud, and some parts of the English speaking ability measurement lacked validity. Therefore, Senior Researcher Matsuyama and his colleagues have developed a system that maximizes abilities by adjusting conversations according to the proficiency and comprehension of language learners and effectively evaluates linguistic performance.
This system utilizes the latest voice dialogue system technology, can control the timing of speech as natural as a human interviewer, and realizes natural conversation through non-verbal communication, which is the potential ability of language learners. Encourage the demonstration.
The ability judgment is a multidimensional evaluation based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). It is expected to be used in English courses and English conversation schools at Waseda University in the future.
