Mizuho Information & Research Institute, Ltd. has been selected for the "Public-Private Partnership Project for Expanding the Sports Population / Development of New Sports", which is a project commissioned by the Japan Sports Agency. In this project, we will promote the development of new sports that promote individual behavior change and aim to expand the sports implementation population. The Athletic Association, Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, Superhuman Sports Association, Mizuho Bank, and Waseda University Sports Business Research Institute will collaborate.
Currently, the expansion of the sports population is attracting attention in order to curb national medical expenses and extend healthy life expectancy. However, according to a survey by the Japan Sports Agency, 1% of adults said that they did not exercise or play sports at least once a week, and 42.5% said that they did not exercise or play sports in a year and would not intend to do so in the future. Therefore, there is a need to expand the concept of sports beyond traditional sports and to lower the psychological hurdles for sports.
In this project, "ALL for SPORTS" and "SPORTS for ALL" to make sports more "free, fun, and creative". Based on this concept, we will work on the development of new sports that includes the fusion of sports with fields other than sports.
The new sport will be developed in the form of an idea contest (hackathon) in which engineers, designers, planners, marketers, as well as the general public can participate. In the contest, we will introduce two types of implementation styles, one that utilizes advanced technology and the other that is centered on local residents, and will be held in a total of four types by combining with the two-axis concept.
For newly developed sports, we will create a place where the general public can experience it, and promote efforts to expand the sports implementation population by matching with private companies, local governments, sports organizations, etc.
