Chiba Institute of Technology (Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture) and Panasonic Corporation (Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture) established the "Panasonic-Chiba Institute of Technology Industry-Academia Collaboration Center" on December 2017, 12.By combining the cutting-edge robot development capabilities of Chiba Institute of Technology with the planning and development capabilities of Panasonic's highly reliable home appliances, we will develop technologies for the commercialization of next-generation robotics home appliances.

Chiba Institute of Technology has the "FuRo Robot Technology Research Center" and a total of 17 researchers led by Director Takayuki Furuta are conducting research and development of all robot technologies from mechanical and electrical circuit design to advanced artificial intelligence and sensing technology. ..At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, a domestic robot was first introduced into the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and the inside of the building was successfully investigated.

The first project of the collaboration will utilize the high-speed space recognition technology "ScanSLAM" using sensor information developed at this Future Robot Technology Research Center to work on the commercialization of next-generation robotics home appliances.
In general, SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a core technology that corresponds to the role of the "human eye" in autopilot and robots, and estimates its position by analyzing information from sensors such as lasers and cameras. You can build a map of the surrounding area while doing so.Among them, "ScanSLAM" has the world's top level performance capable of high-speed processing.

Traditionally, many industry-academia collaboration bases between universities and companies have aimed at research and development such as basic research, and it is said that the establishment of a collaboration center based on product development like this time is extremely rare in Japan.Chiba Institute of Technology and Panasonic hope to accelerate open innovation through this collaboration center and disseminate "new living value" by developing products such as next-generation robotics home appliances.

Chiba Institute of Technology

Foster professionals who learn cutting-edge science and technology and contribute to world culture with technology

Chiba Institute of Technology was founded in 1942 as "Koa Institute of Technology" in response to social demands to train advanced science and technology engineers and enrich Asian countries including Japan. In the 17 years since then, it has continued to support Japan's growth through manufacturing, and is now the oldest existing private technical university […].
