A research team at Nagoya University has succeeded in developing a blood pressure measurement technology that does not require an arm band (cuff).

Changes in blood pressure are known to be a major cause of the onset of cerebrocardiovascular disease, and self-measured blood pressure at home is particularly important. However, in the "oscilometric method" applied to the current home blood pressure monitor, it is a necessary condition for measurement to wrap a band-shaped arm band (cuff) around the arm, and the limit (bathing and exercise) caused by this is a necessary condition for measurement. It has been pointed out that measurement is not possible in daily life scenes such as, discomfort during sleep and measurement error due to cuff tightening).

Therefore, the research group aimed to overcome the limitations of the cuff-type blood pressure monitor, and verified whether the cuffless blood pressure measurement technology (technology for measuring blood pressure from pulse waves) has clinically applicable accuracy.Blood pressure of healthy subjects and patients who are visiting or hospitalized in the cardiology department is collected by simultaneous measurement of the conventional cuff type and cuffless type, and the cuffless blood pressure value is a test required by the IEEE standard, which is the world standard. It was evaluated whether the accuracy was satisfied.

As a result, the cuffless blood pressure value not only achieved the accuracy requirements in all the required tests ((XNUMX) rest test, (XNUMX) blood pressure fluctuation test (increase / decrease), (XNUMX) long-term reproducibility test), but also depended on the cuff during sleep. It was revealed that the discomfort was significantly reduced.

The development of the cuffless sphygmomanometer is directly linked to the development of wearable devices, and enables "visualization" of blood pressure, which is an important health index, in various scenes.Currently, it is possible not only to prevent cerebrocardiovascular disease in hypertensive patients, which are more than 2 million in Japan, but also to measure blood pressure outside the examination room for people who have difficulty in self-measurement, and it is expected to contribute to preventive medical care by realizing a remote medical system. Will be done.
