The Kanagawa Prefectural Board of Education has additionally designated Kashiwayo High School in Yokohama City and Atsugi High School in Atsugi City as priority schools for improving academic ability to develop human resources who can play an active role as leaders in Japan and the international community in the future. This is the third and fourth school after Yokohama Midori High School in Yokohama City and Shonan High School in Fujisawa City, which were designated in advance in October 2017.

 According to the Kanagawa Prefectural Board of Education, priority schools for improving academic ability are designated from among the applicant schools based on the prefectural high school reform implementation plan formulated in January 2016.
