Otemae University (Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture) announced in April 2019 that it plans to open the Faculty of International Nursing (tentative name).Utilizing the "practical English" education that has accumulated a proven track record, we aim to train nurses who can respond to a variety of people, including resident foreigners and foreigners visiting Japan. On March 4, 2018, the application documents for installation approval were submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and if approval is obtained, it will be Japan's first Faculty of International Nursing.
The Government of Japan has set a tourism vision of "2020, 4,000 million foreign visitors to Japan annually."According to the Japan Tourism Agency, 4% of foreign visitors to Japan suffer from unexpected illnesses or injuries during their stay.In other words, if the government's figure of 4,000 million is achieved, 160 million foreigners will need medical care.Furthermore, if the number of overseas people who settle in Japan increases not only for tourism but also for work and marriage, it is expected that the chances of needing medical care in Japan will increase.
In order to meet such nursing and medical needs, it is essential to have an international perspective that can understand and accept the diversity of nationalities, languages, cultures, religions, and so on.The Faculty of International Nursing, which is scheduled to open, aims to develop nurses as "global human resources" through the liberal arts and practical English education that Otemae University is proud of.
