A national opinion survey conducted by The Nippon Foundation revealed that less than 17% of 19- to 2-year-olds believe that they will definitely get married in the future. In particular, women account for only about 1%, and the result is that anxiety remains about the future of the declining birthrate and aging population.

The survey was conducted in December 2022, targeting 12 men and women aged 17 to 19 nationwide, and asked about their views on marriage and the current situation of an aging society with a declining birthrate.

According to the survey, more than 4% of both men and women answered that they would like to get married in the future. On the other hand, only about 2% of men and about 1% of women answered, "I definitely think they will" to the question, "Do you think you will actually get married in the future?"

With regard to diverse partnerships, less than 8% supported de facto marriage and the selective marital sex system, and more than 8% supported the partnership oath system.

More than 7% of respondents said they felt a sense of crisis about the current situation of the declining birthrate and aging population, while less than 1% said they did not.Less than 2% answered that the government's countermeasures against the declining birthrate and aging population were "sufficient," and more than 8% thought that they were "insufficient."

In terms of financial resources for countermeasures against the declining birthrate, the most common answer was "increase the corporate tax rate," followed by "reduction of pension-related expenditures" and "reduction of international cooperation-related expenditures."This suggests that the younger generation feels that the government's spending is biased toward other budgets, such as those for businesses and measures for the elderly, and that sufficient budgets are not allocated to counteract the declining birthrate.
