NTT DoCoMo, Inc., Keio University Graduate School, and Nagoya Institute of Technology Graduate School will use the "Human Augmentation Platform®" developed by DoCoMo in January 2022 to expand human senses through a network. We have developed FEEL TECH™, a technology that shares tactile sensations according to how the other person perceives them on a human augmented basis. This is the world's first development of basic technology for sharing tactile sensations based on the sensitivity characteristics of the other person's tactile sensations.
This technology consists of a sensing device (a device that grasps the sense of touch), an actuation device (a driving device that reproduces), and a "human augmentation platform" (a platform that takes into account individual differences in tactile sensitivity and shares information).A sensing device measures vibrations when an object is touched, and an actuation device reproduces the vibrations. The tactile sensation reproduced by the vibration of the actuation device is shared together with the visual image.
In addition, the "Human Augmentation Platform" presents vibrations based on the tactile sensitivity characteristics of the sharing partner, and performs tactile sharing that is easy for the partner to feel.In addition, personal tactile sensations can be recorded and shared over time. The "Human Augmentation Platform" enables tactile sharing with any partner or device, n-to-n, and tactile sharing beyond time. It is possible to recall the feeling of touching in the past in a realistic form.
By realizing the sharing of tactile sensations with this technology, it is possible to share sensations that could not be conveyed only by images, sounds, letters and words, so it is expected to be used in technologies that emphasize sensations such as medicine and traditional crafts. In addition, since it is possible to convey the texture of products such as clothes on the EC site, it is possible to have a rich purchasing experience that cannot be experienced with 3D or AR alone.
