Tomiyama Sara graduate student of the United Graduate School of Child Development, Kanazawa University, Professor Yoshio Mitsube of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Health Research, Kanazawa University, and Professor Mitsuru Kikuchi of the Kanazawa University Children's Mental Development Research Center are all closed. For the first time in the world, we found that among mothers with children with spectrum disorders (* 1), the higher their knowledge of developmental disorders, the lower their negative emotions at the time of diagnosis.
According to Kanazawa University, the research group quantified changes in emotions from birth to survey through interviews with 5 mothers with autistic spectrum disorders who are 8 to 30 years old and have no delay in language development. Compared with 32 mothers of healthy children.
As a result, it was found that mothers with autism spectrum disorders experienced higher stress and psychological distress than mothers of healthy children even before being diagnosed at a medical institution.Furthermore, it became clear that the higher the mother's knowledge of developmental disorders, the less likely it is to have negative emotions toward the child. In particular, it was shown that negative emotions at the time of diagnosis may be alleviated.
Although it has been said that mothers of children with autism spectrum disorders are exposed to high stress, few studies have investigated the effects of knowledge on mothers' emotional changes and developmental disorders.
