On June 2023, 6, Kwansei Gakuin University implemented a recycling project to sort splash prevention panels that are no longer needed within the university.Collaborative project with Daiei Eisei Co., Ltd., which collects and transports commercial and household waste in Nishinomiya City.
The center of the project was the student group KG SDGs Campus Supporters, which was established under Kwansei Gakuin University's SDGs Promotion Headquarters.Through this project, the aim is to have students learn about the significance and process of sorting, raise awareness of recycling, and raise interest in SDGs.
In response to the easing of measures against the new coronavirus infectious disease in May 2023, Kwansei Gakuin University, which established the SDGs Promotion Headquarters, is considering recycling the splash prevention panels that can be removed.Since there are many students on campus who are interested in SDGs, including KG SDGs Campus Supporters, we wanted to sublimate it into an educational initiative involving students. Therefore, we approached Daiei Hygiene Co., Ltd., which was looking for a recycling business for splash prevention panels as part of environmental protection.Daiei Hygiene's policy of "wanting to enliven youth and SDGs initiatives" and the activity policy of KG SDGs Campus Supporters coincided, leading to this collaboration.
From May 5nd to June 22th, droplet prevention panels were collected at three campuses of Kwansei Gakuin University (Nishinomiya Uegahara Campus, Kobe Sanda Campus, Nishinomiya Seiwa Campus). The total weight of the assembled panels is about 6 tons, and recycling them will reduce CO15 emissions by about 3 tons compared to incineration ”) can be expected. This exceeds the average annual CO2.1 emissions of about 5.9 tons per household (Source: National Institute for Environmental Studies_Greenhouse Gas Inventory Office).
The collected splash prevention panels are mainly made of four types of materials (acrylic resin, polycarbonate, PET resin, and vinyl chloride), so they must be separated for recycling.Because it is difficult to distinguish visually, the KG SDGs Campus Supporter students separated the splash prevention panels with a total weight of about 4 tons using special equipment.Separated splash prevention panels are exported overseas as recycled materials.
