Toyo Gakuen University held the 2021nd SDGs Forum "SDGs and the New Coronavirus" at Zoom Webinar on January 1, 31.

 The SDGs Forum was sponsored by the "SDGs Education Program Development Research Project" of Toyo Gakuen University, and this is the second time.Professor Riki Furuya, Professor Hitomi Sakamoto, and full-time lecturer Takashi Tamai of the Faculty of Global Communication took the stage as lecturers, and explained the impact of Corona's disaster on the SDGs from three perspectives.

 Professor Furuya's lecture theme is "Climate Crisis and Recipe for Building a Sustainable World in the Corona Era-Why Green Recovery Now?".Aiming to realize a decarbonized society by contributing to the improvement of the global environment and economic recovery after corona, while introducing the effects of greenhouse gas reduction due to the new coronavirus infection and examples of European efforts toward a decarbonized society. He talked about the importance of "green recovery".

 Professor Sakamoto gave a lecture on the theme of "SDGs and English education in the Corona era."He pointed out that it is a difficult time for English education, as it is difficult to practice speaking aloud due to the corona sickness, and it is necessary to respond to changes due to the new course of study.On the other hand, the need for English education with an eye on international understanding education is increasing, as the SDGs have been featured extensively in junior high school English textbooks since April.Professor Sakamoto explained the effectiveness of "CLIL (content and language integrated learning)" in incorporating SDGs education into English education, citing examples of lessons that have been conducted so far.

 Lecturer Tamai gave a lecture on the theme of "Outline of'problems'in the Corona era", using the experience of lockdown in Nigeria as an example.CDC to examine the factors behind the overwhelmingly low number of people infected and killed in the first wave of the new coronavirus in the African continent compared to Asia, Europe, and the United States, and to confront various infectious diseases such as Ebola hemorrhagic fever and polio. He explained that the preparations unique to Nigeria, such as (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), hospitals for infectious diseases, and border measures at airports, were functioning.On the other hand, he also introduced the current situation in which violence by police and security organizations is becoming more serious, and raised the issue of the idea of ​​realizing "no one is left behind" advocated by the SDGs.

 After the lecture, each instructor will answer the questions asked in advance by the participants and the questions written in Zoom on the day.In addition, questions were asked one after another during the answers, and it became a forum where participants could feel the heightened awareness and enthusiasm for the SDGs.
