The University of Tokyo and East Japan Railway Company (JR East) have signed a 100-year industry-academia collaboration agreement to create "planetary health" with the aim of realizing a spiritually fulfilling life 100 years from now.
"Planetary health" is the analysis of the impact of people's economic activities on health, the urban environment, and the living things and nature of the earth, so that "people, cities, and the earth" can all be kept in good balance. A way of thinking that aims to create a better lifestyle.The University of Tokyo and JR East have launched the Planetary Health Design Laboratory (PHD Lab.), a collaborative creation project aimed at creating planetary health. We will demonstrate cutting-edge knowledge and work to create future lifestyles.
PHD Lab. will be based in TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, which will open to the public at the end of 2024.We have opened Japan's first planetary health-themed campus, the University of Tokyo GATEWAY Campus, and will use the city as a testing ground to bring together people from all over the world to solve global social issues.
In addition, JR East signed a memorandum of cooperation with the National University of Singapore on September 2023, 9, and the University of Tokyo signed a letter of intent for collaboration and cooperation with the Pasteur Institute on October 19, 10. Collaboration with the ``Planetary Health Innovation Center'' under the Institute is being considered.This will combine the networks of the JR East Group and the University of Tokyo, based in TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, and promote a global startup ecosystem.
