Keidanren has put together recommendations for future human resource development and university reform, and called on university students to respond to the digitization and globalization of the economy and at the same time to improve their liberal arts (education). It proposes that basic subjects such as information science, mathematics, history, and philosophy are compulsory for all students at the university, and that the undergraduate, degree, and curriculum should be fundamentally reviewed.

According to Keidanren, the proposal positions the present age toward a super-smart society as an era of major change, and calls for the training of young people who will open up a new era at universities. For that purpose, regardless of the humanities and sciences, it was necessary to acquire a high level of education called liberal arts, as well as the ability to master big data and artificial intelligence (AI), and high language proficiency.

The fusion of humanities and sciences should be further promoted, requesting science students to teach advanced language education and humanities students to teach basic programming and statistics. We are also requesting a serious review of the existing faculties such as the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Engineering.

Keidanren intends to establish a forum for dialogue with the university on the ideal form of higher education. From Keidanren, Chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi and others attended and proposed to exchange opinions with the presidents of national, public and private universities on human resources and human resource development methods required in the new era.
After the top-level meeting, a working group at the working level will be formed to embody the matters that Keidanren and the university will jointly work on.
