Mukogawa Women's University Junior College in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture has decided to stop recruiting students from 2025 onwards. The decision was made by the board of directors of the educational corporation Mukogawa Gakuin, which takes into account the decline in the 18-year-old population and the preference of female students for four-year universities and co-education.

Mukogawa Women's University Junior College opened in 1950 as Mukogawa Gakuin Women's Junior College, and while changing its name to Mukogawa Women's Junior College and Mukogawa Women's University Junior College, it has sent out over 10 graduates to date. It's here.

However, the number of enrolled students has declined since its peak in 1986, and the decline has rapidly accelerated since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Currently, we have seven departments, including the Department of English Career Communication, Department of Psychology and Human Relations, and Department of Dietetics. The number of staff is currently below capacity.

For this reason, we had decided to stop recruiting students for the Department of Psychology and Human Relations and the Department of Health and Sports in 2023, and for the Department of Japanese Language and Culture and the Department of English Career Communication in 2024. The remaining three departments, the Department of Early Childhood Education, and the Department of Lifestyle Design, have also decided to close in 3.

On the other hand, Mukogawa Women's University, a four-year university, will open the Faculty of Psychology and Social Welfare (enrollment capacity: 2023 students), Faculty of Social Information Studies (220 students), and Department of Sports Management, Faculty of Health and Sports Science (180 students) in 100, and in 2024. The Faculty of Letters, Department of History and Culture (80 students) was newly established. Additionally, there is a plan to establish a new Department of Environmental Symbiosis (2025 students) in the Faculty of Environmental Symbiosis in 120. The Department of Environmental Symbiosis, Faculty of Environmental Symbiosis, aims to develop a life in which students use their science and engineering background to tackle global and natural environmental issues, and the curriculum is scheduled to include fieldwork and collaborative project subjects with companies, etc. starting in the first year.

As the 18-year-old population decreases, the number of female students leaving junior colleges is accelerating rapidly, leading to a rush to suspend recruitment for the 2025 academic year. According to the Basic School Survey, the number of female applicants to junior colleges nationwide continues to decline from 2013 in 9 to 4374 in 2022, which is about half the number.
