A joint research group of Hitachi, Ltd., Jichi Medical University, International University of Health and Welfare, and Chuo University to automatically analyze whether patients with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) also have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Developed by.

It is said that ADHD and ASD, which are neurodevelopmental disorders, may lead to secondary disorders such as school refusal, withdrawal, and depression. In recent years, it has been reported that there are many patients with both ADHD and ASD characteristics, and it has become necessary to make a diagnosis according to the presence or absence of both symptoms.

However, it takes several months of follow-up to determine the presence or absence of complications, and it takes time to decide the treatment method and treatment method, which is a burden on the patient and his / her family.

To solve this problem, in March 2018, a study centered on Jichi Medical University was able to visualize the difference in pathological conditions depending on the presence or absence of ASD from the brain activity pattern before and after taking the therapeutic drug for ADHD patients who had never taken the drug. The group revealed.Based on this finding, we have succeeded in developing a technology that measures the brain response of ADHD patients when they first take a therapeutic drug by optical topography and automatically analyzes the presence or absence of ASD from the brain activity signal. ..When the effect of this technology was verified, it was said that the prediction accuracy for the diagnosis result after several months was about 3%, indicating the possibility of practical use as a diagnosis support technology.

By utilizing this technology, it may be possible for doctors to diagnose ASD in about 2 hours, which used to take several months. In the future, the research group plans to further develop this technology to support early diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders through clinical research.
