Associate Professor Tetsuto Miura of the Faculty of Human Sciences, Waseda University focuses on the valgus mother toe, which is said to be an occupational disease of ballet dancers, and is studying the relationship with ballet techniques using a motion analysis device. The aim is to accumulate evidence through scientific research and deliver scientific knowledge for correct ballet education to the teaching site.Currently, the academic crowdfunding site "academist" is calling for research funding support.

Mr. Miura, a dance scientist, has been conducting research to scientifically clarify dance skills using the methods of motion science and cognitive science. The knowledge of dance science not only leads to the development of more efficient training methods, but is also applied to rehabilitation medicine.Dance has also been shown to be effective in treating Parkinson's disease.

In this study, the degree of hallux valgus and the angle of turnout were not related to advanced ballet players with a history of 10 years or more, but a correlation was found between the angle of hallux valgus and the inclination of the body above the pelvis. The change in posture due to hallux valgus is very small, but it can lead to fatal injuries for ballet dancers who repeat the same practice for a long time.

In the future, we will measure the movements of ballet dancers at various levels and investigate the relationship between hallux valgus and ballet techniques in more detail.By accumulating such knowledge, we aim to develop a practice method that does not cause injuries and deliver it to the field of instruction in cooperation with the Japan Ballet Educators Association. In addition, we aim to publish the results of our research not only in domestic journals but also in international journals, and actively disseminate them to the world.
