Tohoku University and NEC Corporation (NEC) have started joint research to promote the sophistication of SI (system integration) practice using quantum annealing machines.

The SI business has business issues such as a shortage of 2025 IT engineers in 43, response to a huge amount of software services, and enhancement of corporate value by improving productivity. To address these issues, NEC is proceeding with research and development of "SI support AI system" (advancement of SI technology utilizing AI) and is working on digital transformation of SI business.

In this joint research, quantum annealing (optimization technology using quantum effect) will be used to calculate a huge amount of software and services required for this SI-supported AI system, and to create a huge amount of learning data. The aim is to realize a system that can handle the speed of SI business.

NEC is developing AI that automates system design based on customer requirement information, but it takes an enormous amount of time to find the combination (optimal solution) that best meets the requirements.Through this joint research, we aim to solve constraints at high speed by quantum annealing and derive optimized system design at high speed.

This time, we will conduct research on the expansion of learning data related to AI practice using quantum annealing.Utilizing the probabilistic behavior of the quantum annealing machine, we create data that does not have predictable generation rules but meets the conditions for training data.

The company plans to jointly work on solving SI business issues formalized by NEC's practical experience by quantum annealing, share the results with Tohoku University and NEC, and accelerate the practical application of SI support AI systems using quantum computers.
