 According to GK TAKEO, in the joint research, Assistant Professor Kanbara will be in charge of optimizing breeding conditions, developing special dry feed and other production technology for migratory locust, and GK TAKEO will be in charge of the demonstration experiment and demand development.

 The mainstream of insect food in the world is crickets.It is omnivorous, easy to procure feed, grows quickly, and has a market as an edible insect, so it is becoming more popular as a farmed insect.

 On the other hand, migratory locust grows only on low nutritional grasses and grasses, and its ease of reproduction is almost the same as that of crickets.The environmental load generated by aquaculture is less than that of crickets, and if dry feed can be used for breeding in future research, the labor involved in aquaculture can be significantly reduced.

 GK TAKEO thinks that fried migratory locust can be used as a snack because it has a crispy texture similar to river shrimp.Furthermore, paying attention to the refreshing aroma and strong umami of grass, we are considering applying it to caramel and cookies.

 There is no doubt that crickets are excellent edible insects, but we also hope that offering another option, migratory locust, will further expand the possibilities of insect feeding.
