Professor Shinjiro Umezu of Waseda University Faculty of Science and Engineering, Associate Professor Hirotaka Sato of Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, and the research group of Yoshino Denka Kogyo Co., Ltd. are using 3D printers and plating technology in an integrated manner from metals and plastics. We have succeeded in developing a technology for modeling an arbitrary shaped solid.

 With conventional Fused Deposition Modeling 3D printers, three-dimensional objects composed of metal and plastic could not be produced because their melting points differed significantly.

 This time, it was demonstrated that by developing a new technology that combines plating technology and 3D printer technology, the problem of melting point can be solved and an arbitrary-shaped solid composed of metal and plastic can be easily formed.This technology is expected to contribute to the acceleration and promotion of future development and research in fields where future development is strongly expected, such as devices for AI / IoT and robot products.

 The research team commented, "We would like to manufacture epoch-making devices and robots with the newly developed metal and plastic hybrid XNUMXD printer."In addition, there is a happy miscalculation that the adhesion of the metal film to the plastic surface is higher than expected in this technology, and it is said that the mechanism for improving the adhesion will be elucidated in the future.
