文部科学省と厚生労働省は、2021年3月大学等卒業予定者の就職内定状況を共同で調査し、2020年10月1日現在の状況を取りまとめて公表した。調査は、設置者・地域の別等を考慮し、文部科学省・厚生労働省において抽出した大学62校、短大20校、高専10校、専修学校20校の計112校、6,250人。
取りまとめの結果、大学生の就職内定率は69.8％（前年同期比7.0ポイント低下）。このうち国公立大学の就職内定率は、71.9％（同7.5ポイント低下）、私立大学は、69.1％（同6.8ポイント低下）、短期大学は27.1％（同13.5ポイント低下）、大学等（大学、短期大学、高等専門学校）全体では67.1％（同7.1ポイント低下）、大学等に専修学校（専門課程）を含めると64.8％（同7.9ポイント低下）となった。
