A research group led by Haruka Sakamoto, a specially appointed researcher at the University of Tokyo, conducted the first analysis by age and occupation in Japan of how the suicide rate changed during the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection.As a result, it became clear that the number of suicides among women and young people is increasing.

 It has been pointed out that various policies for the new coronavirus may lead to an increase in the number of suicides.This time, the research group analyzed changes in the suicide rate under a pandemic in Japan by gender, age group, and occupation.As basic data, we used monthly suicide data (2011 people in total) in Japan from January 1 to November 2020 under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.As a result, the suicide rate was high in men over the age of 11 over the past 90,048 years, and the number of suicides was high in unemployed men, unemployed women, and office workers. The following increases were shown in 10 compared to 30-2020.

 Analysis of all age groups of men showed an increase in suicide rates from October to November. Those under the age of 10 increased from July to November, and those aged 11 to 30 also increased from October to November. For 7-11 years old, it increases only in October. No increase was observed for those over 30 years old.

 Analysis of all age groups of females showed an increase in suicide rates from July to November. It increases from August to November for those under 7 years old, and increases from July to November for females aged 11 to 30 years. The increase was seen only in July-September for those aged 8-11 and in November for those aged 30 and over.

 職業別の分析結果は、男性の自殺率は会社員が8~10月に、学生が8月・9月・11月に増加。女性の自殺率は、会社員が7月・9月・10月・11月に、学生が8~9月に、主婦が8月・10月・11月に、無職が7~10月に増加が見られた。

 総じて、2020年の自殺率は2016~2019年と比べ、男性では10~11月、女性では7~11月にかけて増加。男性では30歳未満に顕著で特に7~11月に著しく、また女性では30歳未満と30~49歳で増加幅が最大だった。
