Shinshu University has teamed up with both Toyama and Kanazawa universities to start a full-scale human resources creation program "ENGINE" that redefines and redefines regional core industries. It was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's university as a project to build a human resources education program for regional revitalization. Foster talented human resources.

Shinshu University is unique to Shinshu University in order for motivated students to acquire knowledge and analytical perspectives that transcend specialized fields, and to cultivate a deep understanding and experience of academics, in addition to studying in their own specialized fields. A new "Cross-University Special Education Program" was established as a course certification system (FY2017).
In addition to local innovators, global core human resources, and environmental mind-practicing human resources, a new life creator and strategy design human resources training course will be established from 2021.

Strategy Design aims to develop a passion for solving regional issues as well as the ability to structurally grasp things and design strategic actions based on data.

The educational program "ENGINE" promotes this, and the five courses work together to develop human resources who can lead regional revitalization during the course period of about 5 years. Not only universities but also a wide range of human resources and collaborative institutions such as local governments, companies, and financial institutions participate in education.

In ENGINE, the educational program consists of three phases. The first phase is to strengthen literacy and acquire the necessary qualifications for human resources required by the region, such as data science.Learn the basic knowledge of logic models and causal models required for strategic actions, social research and experimental plans required for data collection, and the basics of statistical analysis required for analysis and evaluation.

In the second phase, you will learn about working as a career development, and learn the significance and perspectives of contributing to the community and continuing to be involved in society. Since 2, we have been holding a dialogue exchange event between students and companies, "Oshigoto-ku in Shinshu," which has provided students with opportunities to interact with local companies and working people from an early stage. In addition, we carry out "work" every month, which leads to internships, PBLs that consider solutions to regional and corporate issues, and practical internship programs. In the future, it will be expanded in three prefectures with the aim of fostering career awareness and promoting its establishment in the region.

The third phase is the stage where all the experience so far is mobilized and put into practice. We will work on a "problem-solving internship" to design and practice problems that companies have in collaboration with students as a solution program, and cultivate the ability to be ready for action.

The population of many local governments continues to decline, and Nagano, Toyama, and Ishikawa prefectures are similarly in trouble. However, it can be said that reforms in working styles such as living in two areas and wormcation are opportunities. It is possible to commute to the metropolitan area by using the Shinkansen, and it is expected that the quality of the exchange population and related population will further improve if regional revitalization progresses over a wide area in the future. To this end, there is an urgent need to redefine the state of industry in the region and develop human resources who can come up with new ideas from various resources and information (data).

"We would like to develop human resources who can create new value from this program in anticipation of the declining population and the society after the new corona," said Shuhiro Hamada, President of Shinshu University.
