A survey by Professor Asako Miura, Graduate Student Mei Yamagata, and invited researcher Tsukasa Teraguchi of the Graduate School of Human Sciences, Osaka University, that the desire to avoid infection with the new coronavirus is related to the desire to not accept foreigners. I found out. However, it has also been shown that having many opportunities to interact with foreigners on a daily basis may alleviate that feeling.

According to Osaka University, the survey was conducted on the web for crowdsourcing service registrants in March 2020, and averaged the degree of interest in corona sickness, the desire to avoid infection, and opportunities to interact with foreigners on a daily basis. Valid responses were obtained from 3 men and women aged 38 years.

As a result of analyzing valid responses, the strong desire to avoid infection was associated with the desire to not accept foreigners. If there is a strong aversion to infection or a strong concern about chronic illness, it seems that people who are unfamiliar with their daily lives, such as foreigners, are wary of bringing in the virus and increasing the risk of infection, and are becoming disfellowshipped. ..

However, it was also found that the number of opportunities to interact with foreigners on a daily basis is related to the strong desire to accept foreigners. It is thought that discrimination and prejudice against foreigners are reduced by having many contact opportunities and being exposed to true information.

Analysis by individual characteristics of the respondents revealed that females were more motivated to avoid infection than males and took more preventive actions. No significant difference was found in characteristics other than gender.
