The Japan Association of National Universities, the Association of Public Universities, and the Japan Association of Private Universities have requested the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in writing to extend the subsidy period for the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research.Because there is research that makes it difficult to carry out the business due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, we are requesting the implementation of continuous special measures.

According to the Japan Association of National Universities, the request is a joint name of three organizations including the Japan Association of National Universities, and is addressed to the Research Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.Mr. Hayashi Towatari, Managing Director of the Japan Association of National Universities, visited Mr. Masaharu Shiozaki, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Education, and Mr. Norihiro Ezaki, Director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and handed over the request.

In the request form, a research institution is set for the scientific research fund subsidy project, and it is a requirement to work at an overseas research institution for a certain period of time. The research has been difficult to carry out due to the fact that it has not been allowed to be dispatched to areas where the infection has spread.

If there is no major change in the infection status of the new corona, it can be expected that the research implementation plan will have to be changed, and researchers are worried about the continuation of the research.
For this reason, the Japan Association of National Universities and others have requested that the subsidy period until 2021 be specially extended for research projects that have been approved for extension until 2022.

At the same time, it is requested that the special extension measures be decided as soon as possible in 2021, as it will take a considerable amount of time to review the research implementation plan and coordinate with the main duties.
