Professor Miki Kubo of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Ritsumeikan University and the Noevir Group, which works on making cosmetics by applying plant research and the latest dermatology, have used the cultivation method using the soil fertility index (SOFIX) to organically cultivate medicinal plants. The joint research revealed that the yield can be increased and the content of specific useful ingredients can be increased.

The natural and organic cosmetics market is said to be expanding year by year due to consumers' environmental importance and increasing nature consciousness.Meanwhile, the research group aims to develop its own organic cosmetics, and based on the soil fertility index (SOFIX) that is effective for cultivating plant materials, the research group is an organic field in Noevir's own farm "Hokkaido Shokanbetsu Pilot Farm". We improved the environment of Hokkaido and conducted research on the effects on yield and useful ingredient content in organic farming.

Soil fertility index (SOFIX) is an analytical index that focuses on the quality and quantity of nutrient sources in soil, including organic farming, and microbial activity. It was developed by Professor Kubo et al. As a diagnostic technique for agricultural land soil.Until now, "soil making" in organic farming relied on "experience", and stable production was an issue, but by adjusting the soil composition based on this SOFIX, high-quality agricultural products can be produced stably. It became possible.

In this study, we conducted a test on Angelica acutiloba, which is used in Chinese herbal medicine for women's diseases. As a result of improving the amount of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil and microbial activity based on SOFIX, the yield increases as the soil fertility increases, and rigstilide and butylidenephthalide, which are useful components in the scallop, are used. Also increased according to soil fertility. As a result, it was shown that the cultivation method using SOFIX has a beneficial effect on the growth of plants and the production of specific useful components, and is useful for the cultivation of medicinal plants. The results of this research will be applied to future cosmetics development.
