Kyushu University has re-applied for a national university corporation aiming for the world's highest level of education and research as a designated national university corporation designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.So far, nine schools such as the University of Tokyo have been designated, and Koichi Hagiuda, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has set the number of designations to about 9 for the time being.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, nine corporations have been designated so far: Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Osaka University, Nagoya University, Tsukuba University, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University.
As designated national university corporations are required to compete with the world's top universities as globalization progresses, the application requirement is that the cumulative number of newly adopted projects in the 2013-2017 Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research is within the 10th place in Japan. There are strict conditions such as two or more fields, and the top 2% of papers per faculty member in 2015-2019 is within the top 1 in Japan.
Kyushu University applied for it together with Tsukuba University and Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2020, but the designation was postponed while the other two corporations received the designation.The examination will begin with the designated National University Corporation Subcommittee of the National University Corporation Evaluation Committee, and it is expected that a conclusion will be reached as to whether or not to designate it in the fall.
