Professor Shunichi Yonemura of the Department of Computer Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology has developed an application for smartphones that clearly presents the arrival location and evacuation site of the tsunami. The scale of the tsunami varies greatly depending on the earthquake that occurred, so it is difficult to make a quick decision, but with this app, the necessary information is shown on the map, and it is possible to respond appropriately in the event of a disaster.
Currently, the prototype stage is confirming the function based on the assumed data around Koto-ku, Tokyo.Professor Yonemura plans to link it with data such as the Japan Meteorological Agency's earthquake bulletin, tsunami information, evacuation sites owned by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency and local governments, and the height of buildings in real time, aiming for practical use.
According to the Cabinet Office, 3% of the dead in Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefectures were drowned by the tsunami in the Great East Japan Earthquake.Professor Yonemura started developing this app because the quick decision of where to escape the tsunami can make a difference between life and death.
