Q Why is that?

――When I talk to students, I often refer to popular games.In order to form a party and defeat a strong opponent, it will not work unless everyone has similar special skills.In other words, in order to make a team as strong as possible, it is necessary to have people with different attributes, personalities, and special skills, in other words, people with outstanding personalities, and people with different backgrounds.Being selected as a member of such a team is a condition for playing an active part in Society 5.0.To do this, it is more important to improve your expertise in your area of ​​expertise and to have outstanding abilities in it, rather than being able to do everything evenly.This means that for universities, we must now educate them to develop such human resources.

Q Is the reorganization of the Faculty of Economics and the establishment of the Faculty of Business Administration the first step for that?

Until now, in the Faculty of Economics, I was free to study what I liked, such as economics, management, statistics, and culture.There are many good things about this.However, in a society where it is important to work as a team, each person needs to improve their skills.Applying this to the educational organization and system of the university will clarify the specialized areas of the department and encourage them to improve their expertise more than ever.

Therefore, we decided to divide the Faculty of Economics, which had been one of the Departments of Economics and Business Administration, into the Department of Economics and Mathematics and the Department of Contemporary Economics, and to newly establish the Faculty of Business Administration, Department of Comprehensive Business Administration, and give each one its own characteristics.

In the Department of Economics and Mathematics, we work on quantitative analysis and data analysis using mathematical models that are indispensable for economics.Mathematics is mandatory for entrance exams, and mathematics, statistics, and programming are mandatory for everyone after admission.

In the Department of Contemporary Economics, based on the knowledge of economics, we will incorporate a lot of PBL and fieldwork to communicate with various people and solve social issues.

The Faculty of Comprehensive Management has been renamed to the Faculty of Comprehensive Management because the management itself targets total human activities, and it has been newly established as an independent new faculty of business administration.

You need to broaden your horizons.For that purpose, we have prepared 16 minors that you can freely choose and learn from other fields.Of course, this includes things to acquire a certain level of IT literacy. From 2020, students from all faculties will be asked to choose and acquire one of these, including the acquisition of IT literacy, in addition to their specialized fields.It is exactly what I call "mountain-type human resources".

Q What are the specifics?

--History and Culture, Philosophy, Geographical Environment, Social Welfare, Public Policy, Language and Culture, Global Communication, International Relations, Economics, Business Studies, Law, Political Science, Literature, Psychology, Scientific Communication, Comprehensive IT 16 is for all undergraduate students in principle.

Of these, the general IT minor is important for acquiring the literacy that is indispensable in the era of Society 5.0 and AI, so I want everyone to be able to take it if they wish, regardless of which faculty / department they belong to. ..To that end, we plan to hold more than half of the lessons online to acquire basic knowledge and programming.Today, the university curriculum is extremely tight, so by making it available online, students can study anywhere, anytime.You can also take a quiz, so you can prevent yourself from going to the next step without clearing it.I would also like to be able to ask instructors online and discuss with other students.

Another highlight is the minor in Global Communication, where you can learn a part of EAGLE, a global education program for those who want to play an active role globally.

By the way, EAGLE (Education for Academic and Global Learners in English) is a part of Seikei Brilliant 2020 and is a special program with a capacity of 30 people across faculties.
