Students will have the opportunity to study abroad even in Corona
Collaborative development of a new study abroad program with overseas universities

"In the world after the end of Corona, cross-cultural / cross-cultural communication using online will become commonplace in various scenes. If you are interested in cross-cultural exchange even if you are studying abroad, Focusing on what you can do now, without being overwhelmed by the inability to travel or being restricted by the corona, seeing studying online as a valuable opportunity to acquire a new skill set that will help you when you enter society. I want you to do it, "says Saori Hatani, Deputy Director of the International Department of Ritsumeikan University.

In 2020, the world rushed into the corona wreck in a blink of an eye, limiting their actions and movements. However, even under such circumstances, the university's response was swift.Immediately, all the students studying abroad were safely returned to Japan, and after that, the faculty and staff worked together to take care of the returnees' hearts.

At the same time, in April 2020, we launched the "Study Abroad Dispatch Revitalization Study Working Group", which is an alternative study abroad model so that students will not be deprived of the valuable learning opportunities of studying abroad due to the Corona disaster. I started to prepare.

Of note is the development and implementation of online study abroad programs. The University of California, Davis (UCD) in the United States and the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada have jointly developed an online study abroad curriculum.
You can take courses jointly developed with partner schools while you are in Japan using a web conferencing system such as Zoom.

In the program with UCD, Ritsumeikan University and UCD students will be connected in real time, and while understanding the actual situation of each other's countries, they will learn about the environment, energy, gender, etc. for about a month under the theme of "SDGs". In 1, 2020 undergraduate students participated, and after graduation, about half of the students improved their English proficiency to the level where they could study abroad as "exchange students" at partner schools. Also, because it is online, the concentration on learning has increased, and understanding of the contents such as SDGs has been as highly satisfying as real study abroad.

With UBC, we have co-developed an online version of a long-running pre-Corona program to learn the knowledge, ideas and behavior of becoming a better Global Citizen (a member of the international community) over the long term of one semester.

In addition, regarding the study abroad program, we are discussing and collaborating with about 2022 partner schools around the world toward the resumption of realistic study abroad programs that accompany the trip in the spring of 160.
In addition, for students who have difficulty maintaining motivation such as preparing for study abroad due to corona, senior students who have experience studying abroad can provide counseling and counseling by a dedicated faculty member.
