The Japan Business Federation investigates the actual situation and trends regarding the starting salary of new graduates in 2016. According to the results released on October 2016, 10, more than half of the companies raised their starting salary from the previous year for the second consecutive year.

51.1% of companies raised their starting salary from the previous year. This is the first time since 2000 that the percentage of companies that have raised their starting salary has exceeded half for the second consecutive year.As for the breakdown, "raised after wage revision" accounted for the majority, reflecting the implementation of base-up in spring labor-management negotiations. The amount of increase in starting salary by educational background has increased by more than 1000 yen for many educational backgrounds except junior college graduates (technical) and high school graduates (working). As a result, the starting salary for graduate school graduates (technical) reached the 23 yen level for the first time since the survey started.

By educational background and scale, graduate school (master's) graduates (technical) have the highest starting salary at "3,000 or more", but other educational backgrounds are either "100-299" or "less than 100". The scale is the highest.Among them, high school graduates (working) generally tended to have higher starting salaries as the scale became smaller.

The most important factors to consider when deciding on the starting salary were "public market price" (28.5%), "balance with enrolled students and job value of new graduates" (20.3%), and "decided from the perspective of securing human resources" ( 16.1%) ranked high.It is analyzed that the number of companies that decide the starting salary while checking the level of other companies is increasing year by year in order to secure the planned number of hires against the background of labor shortage.

This survey has been conducted every year since 1952 in collaboration with the Tokyo Management Association in order to grasp the actual situation and trends of the starting salary of new graduates and to use it as a reference for future starting salary measures. The event was held from June 1918th to July 2016st, 6, targeting 7 Keidanren corporate members and Tokyo Business Federation member companies, and 7 companies responded (manufacturing industry 1%, non-manufacturing industry 493%,). More than 51.5 employees, scale 48.5%).
