The "Seizure Video" supervised and produced by Professor Nobukazu Nakazato in the Department of Epileptology, Graduate School of Medicine, Tohoku University, has received a lot of attention, and a translated version has been produced and its international use is expanding.

Epilepsy has a prevalence of 1% and the number of patients in Japan exceeds 100 million.More than XNUMX% of them can suppress seizures with correct treatment, but the misunderstanding that "epileptic seizures = generalized seizures" is widespread not only in the general public but also in medical professionals. As a result, patients have serious problems such as causing a traffic accident due to a small seizure without being aware of it, or losing their job due to a misunderstanding of epilepsy.

This video was created with the goal of eliminating such misunderstandings.Under the guidance of three specialists from Tohoku University, nine typical seizures from children to adults are recorded. In order to protect the patient's personal information, a professional actor took a picture in a specialized studio to reproduce the image that is almost the same as the actual situation in the details of the facial expression at the time of the attack.

The videos have been used in various forms such as lectures in Japan, explanations of symptoms for epilepsy patients and their families, training for doctors, and education for Tohoku University graduate students. As a result, it has been highly evaluated in Japan as a video that helps to deepen the understanding of epilepsy.

In addition, the English version of the video will be completed in February 2015, and the translated versions of Mandarin and Taiwanese will be completed in October of the same year.Of these, the Taiwanese version is planned to be distributed to Taiwanese epilepsy associations, related academic societies, and educators. In addition, the English version was introduced to the participants by Professor Nakazato at the Asia-Oceania Epilepsy Society held in Hong Kong in May 2, and received a great response.

In the future, it is expected that the international use of these translated versions of "Seizure Video" will promote understanding of epilepsy overseas.
