Homma Laboratory of the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo, International Research Center for Urban Infrastructure Safety Engineering, announced the visibility evaluation technology of fireworks launched using detailed numerical map data of buildings at a fireworks display in an urban area where the influence of buildings is large.

When watching fireworks in an urban area, even if it is introduced as a "famous place where you can see fireworks" in guidebooks, the surrounding high-rise buildings may block the fireworks that should be visible, so it is truly To see if the fireworks look good, you have to actually go to the site and see how you can see the fireworks with your own eyes.

Therefore, in this research, the amount of fireworks caught in the field of view is quantitatively evaluated after strictly considering the blockage by the building and the observation position.Specifically, the "solid angle", which is a physical quantity that quantifies the apparent size of the visual object, and the extent of the entire shape of the fireworks, which is the size of the fireworks that are the visual object to be viewed. The evaluation index was the "visibility rate" calculated from the definition of the solid angle to see if the ratio of the above was captured in the field of view.

As an empirical analysis, we will take up the Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival held in central Tokyo, simulate the fireworks to be launched on a computer, and adapt each evaluation value of "solid angle" and "visibility" to the surrounding area. Calculated for each extracted observation point. When looking at the fireworks from the road and when looking at the fireworks from the roof of the building, we created a map with different colors according to the size of each evaluation value, and visually showed the points where you can enjoy the fireworks more.

This time, we dealt with a landscape with a large entertainment part such as fireworks, but this research can be widely applied to various visual objects, and in the future, smoke visibility at the time of fire evacuation due to an earthquake and appropriate placement plan of evacuation instruction version We aim to apply it to the disaster prevention field.
