A group of Keio University, Nara Medical University, and Sojo University have succeeded in developing a new cyanide poisoning antidote that has a superior detoxification effect than existing drugs, and has immediate effect and versatility.

While cyanide can cause fatal poisoning when inhaled or taken in large quantities, it is found in everyday items such as pesticides, pesticides and insulation, leading to inhalation, accidental ingestion, suicide and murder in the event of a fire. Cases of cyanide poisoning have been reported under various circumstances.

The product created in this study is "methemoglobin endoplasmic reticulum (metHb @ Lipo)", which is an oxidized hemoglobin in an artificial red blood cell preparation (hemoglobin endoplasmic reticulum).Methemoglobin exerts a detoxifying effect by capturing cyanide in the body.

It is designed by artificially reproducing the detoxification mechanism of the nitrite compound, which is an existing cyanide poisoning antidote, but unlike the nitrite compound, it does not methose erythrocytes in the body, so the nitrite compound had it. Disadvantages (Metification takes time and rapid detoxification cannot be obtained, and methized red blood cells have reduced oxygen carrying capacity, so they cannot be used for cyanide poisoning during fires, where there is concern about the occurrence of carbon monoxide poisoning. That) has been successfully overcome.

In fact, treatment of mice given a lethal dose of cyan with metHb @ Lipo dramatically increased survival compared to treatment with nitrite compounds. The recovery time from the coma was quick, and the detoxification effect of metHb @ Lipo was more immediate than that of the nitrite compound.Furthermore, administration of metHb @ Lipo did not inhibit oxygen transport in erythrocytes and did not cause hypoxia.

This study shows that metHb @ Lipo is more potent than nitrite compounds, is more versatile, and can be detoxified quickly, and is expected to be used as a new cyanide poisoning antidote that broadens the base of cyanide poisoning treatment. Will be done.
