The spread of the new corona virus has psychological effects on adolescents, but Assistant Professor Junko Okuyama in the field of rehabilitation for physically handicapped children at Tohoku University Hospital, Shunichi Funakoshi, Deputy Director of Miyagi Prefectural Psychiatric Medical Center, Tohoku University Assistant Professor Mitsuru Kadowaki of the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, and the research group of the World's Top Level Research Center for Disaster Science at Tohoku University cited cases where school counselors and high school teachers provided psychological support to high school students after the Great East Japan Earthquake. It suggested the possibility of applying it to the present.
According to Tohoku University, psychological surveys were conducted on high school students in southern Miyagi prefecture in the first, second, and third years after the Great East Japan Earthquake to see if they had depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, or post-traumatic stress reactions. I checked. As a result, it was found that about 1% of high school students are psychologically high-risk people who have problems above a certain level.
School counselors and high school teachers trained by child adolescent psychiatrists at the Miyagi Prefectural Psychiatric Center provided counseling to psychologically high-risk individuals, and they were effective regardless of their specialty or years of teaching. I was able to provide a lot of psychological support.
The research group believes that the methods that have been effective in the Great East Japan Earthquake can be applied to the support of current students who are stressed by the effects of the new coronavirus.
