Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization is an international joint research with the University of Groningen in the Netherlands to find out the similarities between spouses in terms of lifestyle, medical test values, and illnesses for couples of general residents in Japan and the Netherlands. Announced that it was confirmed. Many correlations were found between couples with low genetic similarity and high similarity in lifestyle, suggesting the importance of lifestyle.

So far, no studies have investigated and compared the similarities between spouses' risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (lifestyle-related habits, medical test values, presence or absence of illness) between the two countries. The purpose of this international collaborative study is to quantify and compare the similarities between spouses regarding risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases between Japanese and Dutch populations.

A total of about 3 couples of general residents in Japan and the Netherlands were examined for lifestyle habits, medical test values, and similarities in diseases using public biobanks in both countries.Information on Japan was obtained from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project, and information from the Netherlands was obtained from the Lifelines study.

As a result, lifestyle such as smoking / drinking / exercise, weight, abdominal circumference, obesity (BMI), blood pressure, test values such as total cholesterol / triglyceride / HDL-cholesterol / LDL-cholesterol, hypertension / diabetes / metabolic syndrome Similarities between spouses were confirmed for the disease. This result was similar in both Japan and the Netherlands.

As a result, as a preventive measure against lifestyle-related diseases, measures such as "providing health guidance together with husband and wife through health examinations" and "creating an environment where couples can encourage and compete with each other" will lead to effective lifestyle-related habits. It is expected to improve. Also, since couples share environmental factors rather than genetic factors, it may be possible to clarify the relationship between environmental factors and diseases.
