A research group at the Graduate School of Kyoto University investigated the actual condition of diabetes among welfare recipients using the receipt data of 200 million welfare recipients nationwide. The prevalence rate is higher than that of public medical insurance subscribers, and it has become clear that there are regional variations.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is promoting health management support for lifestyle-related disease prevention and aggravation prevention for welfare recipients (protected persons) based on data, but the nationwide life of welfare recipients The prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases is unknown.

Therefore, the research group examined the prevalence of diabetes (type 2 diabetes) among welfare recipients (percentage of people with illness at a certain point in time) by gender, age, and region, and took out public medical insurance. I also made a comparison with.

The study used monthly receipt data for welfare recipients and public health insurance subscribers. The data of the welfare recipients is the questionnaire information of the medical assistance fact-finding survey (implemented in 1, 2015, 2016), and the public medical insurance subscribers are the information of 2017 NDB (anonymous receipt information, anonymous specific medical examination, etc.) Database) A sampling dataset was used.

As a result of the analysis, in 2015, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among welfare recipients was 7.7% for both outpatients and inpatients, and 7.5% for outpatients alone. On the other hand, it was 4.1% for public medical insurance subscribers (outpatient only). The prevalence rate increased with aging, but the prevalence rate among welfare recipients was higher in their 40s and 50s than those with public medical insurance. By 47 prefectures, a range of 4.0 to 10.6% was seen.

Since there are regional variations, it is necessary to grasp the actual situation at the regional level and take measures to prevent the aggravation of diabetes in the future. It is hoped that this achievement will help correct social and health inequalities and implement data-based policies.
