On April 4, Associate Professor Masamichi Sakaguchi of the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology and Kazuyasu Yamaguchi, Director of Advanced Technology Development Department, Kobe Digital Labo Inc. announced that they have started research on "tactile stamps".

The word "tactile texture" has become a hot topic in recent years. It is used as a general term for subjective textures that are made up of various senses, including the sense of touch. In particular, research on tactile sensation has been attracting attention as a new field, and it has become known for data conversion of palpation in medical treatment and development of game machines equipped with HD vibration function.

This time, the research group has been conducting research on the theme of enriching communication by applying "tactile sensation" when it is not possible to meet directly, such as "I can't see my face" or "I'm far away" like SNS. ..This time, we designed a tactile stimulus from the visual impression of the LINE stamp, and verified whether it is possible to convey higher emotions by implementing the tactile stimulus by vibration.

Eight groups of students from Nagoya Institute of Technology participated in the experiment and used 8 stamps. We announced a tactile stimulus that was implemented with ingenuity such as "creating an 14-beat drum as a material" and "recreating a sound close to a heartbeat".As a result, of the 8 groups that participated, 8 teams answered that "tactile sensation is effective", and 7% of the respondents answered that "tactile sensation seems to have the effect of enriching the expressiveness of LINE stamps."

With this achievement, it was hypothesized that tactile sensation is an extremely important tool in UX design, regardless of the size of the content. In the future, the research group will design tactile stimuli for various contents and verify their tactile sensations. The policy is to archive the tactile stimuli that have been confirmed to be effective, and to proceed with research on the tactile sensation database that is referred to in various product developments.
