Nagoya Institute of Technology, Kinjo Gakuin University, Aichi Children's Health and Medical Center, and NTT Docomo Tokai Branch will conduct demonstration experiments using virtual reality (VR) technology in pediatric medical settings at the Aichi Children's Center.
There are three demonstration experiments that utilize VR technology. The first is "education on the importance and method of hand washing."By letting children experience the process of erasing the germs projected on their hands through a VR scope and erasing them with an appropriate washing method, they will be educated about the method of hand washing and its importance.
The second is "a distracting technique (distraction) to reduce fear during surgery, treatment, and examinations."At the time of treatments and examinations that make the child more fearful than necessary, such as cast cuts, the video using VR technology distracts the child and reduces the child's fear and pain.
The third is "preliminary explanation (preparation) for the purpose of mental preparation during surgery, treatment, examination, etc."As an aid to prior explanations on surgery, treatment, and examinations, we will use images that utilize VR technology to explain to children in an easy-to-understand manner so that they can prepare their minds for surgery, treatments, and examinations.
In this demonstration experiment, Nagoya Institute of Technology will develop a VR system for hand-washing education, and Kinjo Gakuin University will provide advice on educational knowledge regarding tablet use and VR utilization for children.
