In 2024, a space special course will be newly established in the prefectural Kushimoto Koza High School general course in Kushimoto Town, Wakayama Prefecture. It was revealed by Wakayama Prefecture, and it is the first time in Japan that it has been installed in a public high school.Since the region is suffering from a rapid population decline and an aging population, Wakayama Prefecture is aiming to revitalize the region by gathering high school students who are interested in space from all over the country.

According to Wakayama Prefecture, the new "Space Exploration Course" will be established. In addition to learning about space, we will promote cooperation with space-related companies such as Space One, which is constructing the first small space rocket launch site in Japan in Kushimoto Town.

In preparation for this, students enrolled in 2022 will study space-related learning during the time of comprehensive inquiry and participate in space-related events. Students enrolled in 2023 can take the elective course "Space" and utilize the time for comprehensive inquiry to study space-related matters. In addition to hiring people with specialized knowledge of space education as faculty members, we are planning to set up a review committee consisting of experts and space-related companies.

Kushimoto Koza High School was established in 2008 by integrating Kushimoto High School and Koza High School. It is a small school with regular courses and about 270 students.Kushimoto Town had a population of about 1950 in 3, but due to a rapid population decline, it decreased to about 5,000 at the end of 2021.

Kushimoto Koza High School has abolished the Koza school building in Nakaminato, Kushimoto Town, which is the former Koza Town, due to the decrease in the population of 15 years old, and is recruiting students from all over the country with a signboard for studying abroad in the area.As Space One began to develop a rocket launch site, he turned his attention to space as a trump card for recruiting students.
